What should have been an interesting story somehow made tediously dull. The Professor and the Madman, masterfully researched and eloquently written, is an extraordinary tale of madness, genius, and the incredible obsessions of two remarkable men that led to the making of the Oxford English Dictionary — and literary history.

But I figure that I will just get it from the library: A book like this is important to remind us just how thankful we have to be even for the things that feel like they have always been there.

There was one word which mistakenly went unprinted in the first edition.

  • Once the entire background of the man is known, it is not too surprising; he has all of the time in the world on his hands, and hundreds of books at his disposal. I had started it once before but it never really compelled me to pick it up and keep reading.
